Plastic Invasion

One morning changing the trash bag in my kitchen I stopped for a second and looked around. There is Plastic everywhere. Plastic cups, plastic lids, plastic toys, plastic bags etc and realized that my world has been invaded by plastic. On that day I started writing down the number of times that I use plastic in one form or the other, for a couple of days. At the end of the second day I was shocked to see the number at 38.

On that day I questioned myself and my education. Of what use is my education if I don't realize the damage (irreparable) that I am causing to this fraglie environment. I am putting my future generation at risk. I do not remember using plastic as child but as I grew up "plastic" slowly made its way into my life and also into many other lives around me. Mothers started feeding their children in plastic bottles, children started using plastic toys and of course the plastic bag became literally omnipresent.

Plastic became so prevalent because of its cost. This is true as long as there are petroleum reserves around the world (Petroleum is the raw materials for may of the plastics), but when the petroleum gets scarce the cost is bound to rise. With the dying reserves where can the mankind find resevres to make plastic. Every year oceans are attacked to full fill our petrol needs. In the process millions of ocean creatures die (just because of the petroleum spills that are caused by the rigs used to drill the oceans). Are we in this world just to destroy it?

Today against all the scientific(evolution) theories, I feel that the Universe is created by The God and may be He is doing some kind of a science experiment to see how fast and efficiently we can destroy ourselves. I must say we all are on our way to an A+.

Come on folks, stop this mad rush to self destruction. Come closer to nature and see how beautiful it is. Try to preserve it. Live natural and Live Organic (in the true sense). Minimize the usage of plastic and reuse/recycle plastic when ever possible. This alone is one of the biggest steps that we can take to start a repair process.

Some simple steps that I have been taking for a while to minimize the use of plastic:

1. I do not feed any kind of liquid or solid to my family in plastic (There is scientific evidence that not only is plastic dangerous to the environment but also to our body). There are good glass or stainless alternatives.

2. I avoid plastic toys for my children as much as possible. I buy them wood based toys.

3.I take my shopping bags with me ( a routine thing in India till the recent past).

I urge all the people who stumble upon this blog to take and share steps to use plastics minimally.

Thank you friends for your time.
